American elderberry is a variety of black elderberry (Sambucus nigra) that is native to most of the east, central, and southwest parts of North America. It has long been a sacred tree to the people of the Cahuilla Nation, in what is today considered Southern California. This zine covers how to identify the plant, grow it, and forage it in the wild. It also includes the plant’s medicinal uses and a few simple recipes. This zine was created from the Elderberry profile by Weeds and Deeds.
